What happens in a Mental Health and Wellbeing appointment?
Your appointment with a Mental Health Advisor may be in-person, on the phone, or on MS Teams. For more info, check this FAQ: Where is my appointment with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Team?

Your Mental Health and Wellbeing adviser will:
  • ask you about what’s on your mind and any challenges you're dealing with, as well as the impact this might be having on your studies.
  • think with you about what might help improve the situation or your ability to manage
  • collaboratively create a support plan which outlines any next steps, as well as resources which might be helpful
  • provide further advice via email/phone/appointment to solve any problems or review support.
You can expect us to:
  • provide a range of sources of support, offering confidential and collaborative advice in a fair and non-judgmental way.
  • be open, honest and transparent with you.
  • make sensitive and confidential referrals to relevant specialist services as appropriate.
  • give you support and encouragement to seek further help or advice.
  • respond to your enquiries in a timely manner, within the normal constraints of a busy working team.
  • seek opinion and feedback from our students to improve the services we offer.
  • do everything we can to solve problems if they arise.

We expect you to:

  • tell us relevant details about your emotional and mental health, including information that may impact on your own or others’ personal safety.
  • register with Disability and Dyslexia Service (DDS) if you have a diagnosed mental health condition, so that practical support arrangements can be put in place while you study at LSBU.
  • take responsibility for yourself and solve difficulties yourself if you feel that you can.
  • seek help with any difficulties which you cannot resolve yourself as soon as possible, and to tell staff who need to know about any difficulties so that they can help.
  • engage fully with support provided by or through LSBU where you have accessed that support for a specific reason and to try and act on advice that you get.
  • arrange and attend any appointments to discuss and review your support with the team.
