The Associate Chaplains are members of local faith communities who have completed Chaplaincy qualifications. Their role at LSBU is to support the whole community and provide space to reflect and relax. They listen and help you find your own answers. They can give you information about how their particular faith tradition perceives a topic, but will never pressure you to believe anything in particular.

Izabela Hanifah Was

My years of working with vulnerable people in the Muslim community has led me to become a champion for Muslim women's education and personal successes, resulting in to their empowerment and well-being while maintaining God at the centre of everything.
Sister Anouska Robinson-Biggin
Catholic Associate Chaplain
Anouska a Catholic religious sister with the Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus (www.fcjsisters.org). She has worked in Higher Education Chaplaincy since 2013 and completed her postgraduate studies in this area. As a trained spiritual director, she is always happy to meet staff and students for One-to-One conversations about faith, whilst acknowledging her limitations with faiths and religions that are not her own.
Muslim Associate Chaplain
Samer studied in Egypt, Qatar, Sudan, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he became passionate about teaching Fiqh( Islamic jurisprudence). He has been a frequent guest on the TV channel Islam QA for the past 7 years, addressing faith-related questions, and has 25 years of D'awah experience, including 13 years as Imam of the Al Manaar Mosque in West London. Samer holds two master’s degrees, a PhD in Islamic Science and two Ijazah in Quran recitation.
Deacon Alexandre Garziglia
Anglican Associate Chaplain
Alex is the Curate at St Christopher’s Church, Walworth. He was at Westcott House, Cambridge, where he completed the first part of his formation for ministry, and during this time read for a degree in theology (BTh) through Selwyn College. Alex has been involved in pastoral work with homeless shelters, prison chaplaincy, and has an insight into military chaplaincy having been on a placement at the Defence Academy UK Chaplaincy Centre in Shrivenham. He has a particular interest in social justice, working with Citizens UK, and working in inner city estate ministry.
Anglican Associate Chaplain (Croydon Campus)
Ruth is an ordained Anglican priest. She is the vicar of St Matthew’s Croydon, part of the Chaplaincy team at Archbishop Tenison’s school and Assistant Chaplain at LSBU Croydon. Rev Ruth is usually around the Croydon Campus on a Tuesday morning. Do say hello and have a chat if it’s helpful. Rev Ruth and her family share their home with two beautiful and very spoilt cats.
Gavin is the Jewish Chaplain for all London University Students. He is one of Jewish Chaplaincy’s longest serving chaplains. He arrived in the capital in 2000 after serving as the Chief Rabbi of Ireland and working as a rabbi in three other Jewish communities. Born in South Africa, he’s raised five sons and also has three grandchildren.
