Interrupting or taking a break from your studies
Our senior student advisor team can advise on the financial support and funding that is available to you, and the process of taking a formal break from your studies (known as an interruption), if you would like to. If you do not wish to interrupt your studies, but you need or may need a bit of time and flexibility to manage your studies, it is important you speak to your course team. Our senior advisors cannot facilitate this, but your course team can.

Student Finance Support
Our senior student advisor team can advise on the financial support and funding that is available to you. We would recommend booking an appointment with the team if you are interrupting your studies to discuss the implications this can have on your student finance.
What does the student advice team do, and how do I book an appointment? - LSBU MyAccount
If you do decide to interrupt during or after your pregnancy you will not be entitled to maintenance loan, but you may be entitled to maternity grants or universal credit. Please speak with citizens advice to discuss eligibility Universal Credit - Citizens Advice.
Student finance offers grants or parents and childcare. Please ensure you have checked your eligibility for both grants, and you can apply before the 1st May for the current academic year.

Childcare Grant: Overview - GOV.UK- Please check if your childcare provider is on the Ofsted early Years Register.
Please note childcare fees can be quite expensive. SFE pay a portion of your fees directly to the Ofsted childcare provider, but you will be expected to pay the remaining costs.
“85% of your childcare costs or a fixed maximum amount, whichever is less.
The maximum you can get is:
- £199.62 a week for one child
- £342.24 a week for 2 or more children”
If you are fully enrolled and struggling with money, you may be entitled to LSBU’s student support fund.

Other Financial Support
If you are currently breastfeeding and are coming onto campus we can add access to first aid rooms onto your ID card. You can then use these rooms any time you need to.
Please note, LSBU do not offer any childcare services whilst you are attending lectures or classes, however please do book in to speak to the support teams above, who can recommend suitable services and/or funding for this.
