What assistive software is available for students?

If you are eligible for support through Disability and Dyslexia Support (DDS), you can access different assistive technology to aid you with your studies. 
 

The range of Assistive Software available on campus includes: 

  • Jaws – screen reader
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking–- speech recognition 
  • MindView – mind-mapping software
  • Supernova – screen magnifier and screen reader
  • ClaroRead – screen reader.

What can each software help with?

ClaroRead

ClaroRead is an easy-to-use screen reading tool. ClaroRead can read text shown on screen, as well as menus, button text, and tool tips.  
 

ClaroRead allows you to change the font and line spacing in Microsoft Word, as well as check homophones and spelling.  
 



Dragon NaturallySpeaking

Dragon is a speech-recognition programme that allows you to enter text into programmes such as Microsoft Word, with your voice.  

As well as dictating text, you can also use Dragon to help with emails, searching the internet, and navigating your PC.
 



MindView

MindView is a mind mapping software to help with brainstorming and presenting your ideas visually.

MindView is available to students with support through Disability & Dyslexia Support (DDS). To request access please contact the Disability and Dyslexia Support team though MyAccount.  
 



Free accessibility features

Freely available accessibility features may also aid your learning. These include read aloud functions, magnification, dictation in Microsoft Word, and immersive reader.
